Warner Bros. Sets ‘CHiPs’, ‘It’ & Untitled PG-13 Comedy For 2017

Warner Bros. has scheduled its big-screen version of the hit 1980s NBC series CHiPs for August 11, 2017. Dax Shepard directs and stars alongside Michael Pena in the action comedy about two California Highway Patrol motorcycle cops. In addition, the Burbank-based studio said today it has set a September 8, 2017 release date for the Stephen King adaptation It, which is in that post-Labor Day frame dead zone, and December 22, 2017 for an untitled PG-13 comedy.

Warner Bros. already had a hold on its CHiPs date, but has now provided the title. The pic faces off against Sony Animation’s Emoji Movie that weekend, and follows in the wake of some serious August 4 releases including 20th Century Fox’s Alien: Covenant, Universal’s Pitch Perfect 3, and Open Road’s Blazing Samurai.

So far, It is the only release on the September 8 date. The film, of course, is based on King’s bestseller about a group of kids in a small Maine town haunted by a monstrous clown. As for the untitled PG-13 comedy, that will fall on a Christmas four-day weekend after Disney/Lucasfilm’s release of Star Wars: Episode VIII on December 15. The Warner Bros. comedy will share marquee space with DreamWorks Animation’s The Croods 2, Weinstein/Dimension’s The Six Billion Dollar Man and Disney’s untitled live-action fairy tale movie.
