Ciao is the Executive Assistant on the film team at Rideback. Born and raised in Shanghai, China, Ciao moved to LA four years ago to pursue her Bachelor’s Degree in Communication and Jewish Studies from the University of Southern California. She got her first job in the industry as a development intern for SK Global Entertainment, before moving on to intern for Nine Stories Productions, Atlas Entertainment and eventually Rideback. She also worked as a video producer at DxChannel, a Chinese video brand focusing on explanatory journalism for pop culture and consumer trends. Prior to joining the company, she just received her B.A. and was working as a freelance producer.

Childhood ambition: To be a full-time archaeologist and part-time private detective

Fondest memory: Camping overnight in the Wimbledon Queue at the age of 14… Everything was perfect until Serena lost to Alize Cornet in the third round and it started drizzling

Retreat: A mountain cabin with a jacuzzi, or a faraway city with history

Wildest dream: To get picked up by the TARDIS on my way to work and go on a wild adventure with The Doctor

Proudest moment: When an investigative documentary I produced on China’s second-hand clothing market hit 2 million views online

Biggest challenge: Juggling a dozen side gigs and hobbies on my weekend while still finding a good chunk of time to sit down and read

Alarm clock: The Show Must Go On by Queen playing 5 times in a row with 5-minute intervals

Perfect day: Hiking in the morning, a hot shower with some decent black tea, a museum or gallery visit with family in the afternoon, sushi for dinner and a great sci-fi novella to wrap up the evening

First job: Translating on-court interviews at the 2017 Australian Open for a major Chinese streamer

Indulgence: Watching In Time With You (an amazing 2011 Taiwanese Romantic drama) with a pint of Ben & Jerry’s

Last purchase: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Favorite movie: Arrival, Zodiac, Blade Runner, Memories of Murder, When Harry Met Sally, Die Hard, Let the Bullets Fly

Inspiration: My parents and the 800 books they have on their shelf
